Pap Smear & Cervical Cancer Screening

Early Detection. Lifesaving Protection.

At Dr. Preeti Meena Clinic, we believe in the power of preventive care—and one of the most essential tools for women’s health is the Pap smear test. Regular cervical cancer screening helps detect early changes in the cervix that could lead to cancer, allowing for timely treatment and better outcomes.

If you’re a woman over 21 or sexually active, routine Pap smears should be a part of your health care plan.

What is a Pap Smear?

A Pap smear is a simple and quick test that checks for abnormal cells on the cervix—the lower part of the uterus. These cell changes may be caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) and, if left untreated, can lead to cervical cancer.

The test is not painful, takes just a few minutes, and can be life-saving when done regularly.

When Should You Get a Pap Smear?
  • Women should begin screening at age 21

  • Between ages 21 and 65, a Pap smear is recommended every 3 years

  • If combined with an HPV test, screening may be done every 5 years

  • More frequent tests may be advised if you’ve had abnormal results or other risk factors

What Happens During the Test?
  • A speculum is gently inserted to view the cervix

  • A soft brush or swab collects a small sample of cervical cells

  • The sample is sent to the lab for analysis

  • Results typically arrive within a few days

Why Cervical Cancer Screening Matters

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers in women. Regular screening can detect problems before they become serious, often when no symptoms are present. Early treatment of abnormal cells can completely stop cervical cancer from developing.
